ABOUT THE BOOK

Most students and ulama are unaware of the fact that the Hanafi understanding of Usul al-Hadith differs from the Shafi/Muhaddithin one in nearly every chapter, with major differences in many.

This results in each considering certain narrations a hujjah while the other doesn't, which is of extreme importance when studying adillah especially in the final year in Madrasah.

How many of us know the Hanafi definition of majhul?  Had we known it, many ahadith that seemed weak, we would now know to be acceptable.

What about the Hanafi definition of a mashhur hadith? Knowing it would answer many objections on how we used certain narrations and didn’t use others.

Sadly, the sum total of our knowledge of Hanafi Usul al-Hadith is that Mursal is acceptable!

This is knowledge that is required by every graduate and alim and this is the perfect book for teaching it. It should be included in the syllabus of every madrasah and taught together with Sharh an-Nukhbah.

First teach a chapter from Sharh an-Nukhbah and then do the same chapter in this book. The author keeps it simple and easy to understand clearly highlighting the difference between the two schools.

If teaching the book isn’t possible, then at the very least, the teacher should study this book and teach the Hanafi stance to the students in each chapter.

This work is summarised by the author from his more detailed work on the topic and he added on the tahqiqat of Sh Awwamah on many issues.
